ROXBURY — A brazen armed crew looted the Foot Locker on Washington Street in Roxbury in the middle of the day Sunday — turning a sneaker store into a crime scene draped in yellow tape and leaving police scrambling to track them down.

The robbery erupted just after 12:15 p.m. on September 28 inside the Foot Locker at 2275 Washington Street. Detectives say multiple suspects stormed the shop, brandished a weapon, and staged a daylight raid so bold it’s hard to believe this is the same city Mayor Michelle Wu keeps calling “the safest in America.”

Within minutes, the busy sneaker shop was cordoned off, crime tape flapping in the wind as curious onlookers gathered. Police have now released images of the suspects, begging for tips as the manhunt widens. What exactly the crew managed to get away with remains unclear — investigators have not said what, if anything, was stolen during the heist.

Officers say anyone who recognizes the suspects should call District B-2 Detectives at (617) 343-4275 — or drop an anonymous tip through CrimeStoppers at 1-800-494-TIPS, by texting “TIP” to CRIME (27463), or online at Boston Police CrimeStoppers. Photos and videos can also be submitted anonymously, with BPD promising to shield the identity of anyone who comes forward.

For Roxbury residents — already rocked by shootings and street violence — this wasn’t just another police blotter entry. It was a brazen stickup in broad daylight at one of the busiest stores in the neighborhood. And for Wu, who has staked her image on boasting about Boston’s safety, it’s another glaring reminder that slogans don’t stop armed gangs from looting sneaker stores in the heart of the city.
