BOSTON — Boston’s City Council just gave the green light to something few parents ever imagined they’d hear: bring-your-own heroin dens, stamped with the city’s blessing.
In an 8–3 vote, councilors rejected a resolution that would have put Boston firmly against so-called “safe injection sites.” Instead, they signaled support for taxpayer-funded lounges where addicts can walk in with their own heroin, shoot up under supervision, and walk back out onto neighborhood streets.

Councilors Ed Flynn, Erin Murphy, and John FitzGerald were the only ones willing to stand up and say no. The rest — a bloc of eight led by Mayor Wu’s loyalists — sided with Beacon Hill activists who’ve been pushing the sites as “public health.”
For families in neighborhoods already overrun by open-air drug use, the vote felt like a betrayal. Parents say they’re tired of stepping over needles on playgrounds and explaining to their kids why addicts are passed out on sidewalks. Instead of relief, they got a City Council seal of approval for even more chaos.

Critics warn the dens will do little more than shift Boston’s Mass and Cass nightmare into new zip codes. But inside City Hall, councilors insisted it was about “compassion” and “saving lives.”
Try telling that to the mom dodging syringes outside East Boston High, or the shop owner sweeping up foil and straws from his doorway. What they see isn’t compassion — it’s a green light for more mayhem, backed by their own tax dollars.
Eight councilors voted for bring-your-own heroin dens. Three stood against. And now Boston families are left wondering whose side City Hall is really on.
