BOSTON — A simple late-night walk to the corner store ended in bloodshed when a gay couple was ambushed by a group of men hurling homophobic slurs near 550 River Street in Mattapan, police say.
According to a Boston Police report, the couple was taunted with vile remarks on September 13 before things turned violent. The men became combative, fists flew, and one attacker allegedly swung a baseball bat, smashing one victim in the head. Officers found him bleeding in a parking lot, rushed to the hospital with a gash to the back of his skull.

His partner, dazed but alive, was escorted to the police station to be interviewed by detectives. So far, no arrests have been announced, no suspects named. Just another hate crime with more questions than answers.
And while victims are left picking up the pieces, Mayor Michelle Wu still parrots her line that Boston is the “safest city in America.” Tell that to the couple who couldn’t even buy a soda without being bludgeoned in the street. Wu’s slogan-driven City Hall looks more out of touch by the day as hate-fueled violence spills onto neighborhood sidewalks.
