BOSTON — Forget policy briefings — Councilor Sharon Durkan just dropped her juiciest reveal yet in a Substack post that reads more like a celebrity diary than city business. The District 8 lawmaker admitted she’s been on the so-called “fat jab” Wegovy since March, proudly declaring she’s shed 50 pounds and feels “more herself than ever.”

“I’ve lost 50 pounds, gained strength, and felt more myself than I have in years,” Durkan gushed to readers in her online essay. What was billed as a policy note about health insurance quickly spiraled into a glossy weight-loss confessional — complete with shout-outs to her doctor and calls for statewide task forces.

But while Durkan is busy blogging about her glow-up, City Hall critics say she’s been failing her constituents. She’s Mayor Wu’s most reliable ally, even blocking an emergency hearing on the Mass & Cass crisis while tents, overdoses, and violence spiraled. She’s also infamous for trying to police colleagues’ language during a suicide-prevention resolution, insisting they say “died by suicide” instead of “committed suicide.”
And the numbers don’t lie: records show Durkan has already burned through $3,772.72 on Ubers in 2025 through August — all in some of Boston’s most walkable neighborhoods. Add in her past flirtation with a sugar tax on residents, and her brand starts to look less like a glow-up and more like a lecture tour.

Still, Durkan is milking her Substack moment for all it’s worth. “It’s giving Ozempic chic,” one City Hall insider joked. Another laughed: “She’s rebranding herself in real time — from councilor to lifestyle influencer.”
For now, Boston has its own celebrity-style reveal: a City Hall politician blogging about her 50-pound drop while the city’s biggest crises keep piling up.
