BOSTON—Mayor Michelle Wu came out swinging Saturday after reports surfaced that the Trump administration is preparing a massive immigration crackdown in Boston.
“Boston will never back down from being a beacon of freedom and a home for everyone,” Wu said in a fiery statement. “Stop attacking cities to hide your administration’s failures.”

The comments follow a Politico report claiming ICE is preparing to “flood the zone” in Boston in the coming weeks. Acting ICE director Todd Lyons has already vowed to unleash federal manpower on the city.
The Justice Department recently threatened to cut off funding and prosecute sanctuary city leaders, sparking a showdown between Washington and Boston City Hall. Wu doubled down, blasting what she called “coercion, intimidation, bullying or threats from the federal government.”
Governor Maura Healey also joined Democratic governors in condemning Trump’s plan to use the National Guard for immigration enforcement, calling it “political theater” and an “abuse of power.”
Boston now braces for a possible federal raid — with Wu promising to shield illegal immigrants and Trump promising the biggest surge in years.
