BOSTON— A quiet Dorchester block turned into a war zone Friday evening when masked gunmen tried to jack a car and opened fire, leaving one person shot and neighbors rattled in the middle of rush hour.
The brazen daylight attack unfolded around 5:52 p.m. near Old Colony Terrace and Savin Hill Avenue. Police say two suspects in full-face masks moved in on a vehicle when gunfire erupted, shattering the calm of a summer evening.
One suspect, dressed in dark clothing with a white mask and red sneakers, may have been injured in the wrist as he fled. The second, in a black mask and gray hoodie with bold black lettering across the back, vanished into the neighborhood before officers arrived. Both remain at large.
Boston Police have released pictures of the assailants:

It’s just the latest flashpoint in Boston’s summer crime wave: teens with machine guns at Caribbean Carnival, City Hall staffers brawling in the North End, and now carjackers spraying bullets on Dorchester streets.
Yet City Hall keeps insisting Boston is “the safest city in America.” For residents watching their neighborhoods turn into shooting galleries, the political spin rings hollow.
Police are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information can call C-11 detectives at 617-343-4335 or reach the anonymous CrimeStoppers line at 1-800-494-TIPS.
As summer winds down, the crime tally keeps climbing — and so does the frustration that Boston’s leaders seem more interested in climate panels and car bans than keeping bullets off the streets.
