BOSTON â Mayor Michelle Wu took to Facebook this week to bemoan federal funding cuts â railing against Donald Trump for pulling money from health care, housing, and research.

But while Wu cried foul over the cash, she proudly reminded residents that Boston police wonât help ICE catch criminal aliens. In other words: less money from Washington, but still no cooperation with Washingtonâs laws.

FAFO Season in Boston
Wu painted Boston as a victim of Trumpâs wrath, portraying the city as under siege by federal cuts. Yet in the same breath she bragged about the cityâs âTrust Act,â which blocks Boston police from working with immigration authorities unless thereâs already a criminal warrant.
That means if ICE wants to deport a violent offender, city cops are forced to stand down. Wu insists this policy makes Boston safer, claiming immigrants are more willing to call 911. But critics see it as a get-out-of-jail-free card for fugitives.

The Money vs. The Message
Wu rattled off the funding losses â federal grants for schools, roads, hospitals, and public safety. But instead of drawing a line between Bostonâs spending priorities and Washingtonâs purse strings, Wu doubled down on her sanctuary stance.
The irony isnât lost: Wu wants Washingtonâs cash while rejecting Washingtonâs laws.
Whatâs Next
With states like Florida promising crackdowns on sanctuary cities, Wuâs post sounded less like a plan and more like a tantrum. Federal funding might be drying up, but Wu is still determined to prove Boston will defy the feds â even if it means protecting the very criminals Trump is targeting.
