BOSTON — Dorchester’s Blue Hill Avenue was transformed into a crime scene Monday night after gunfire shattered the evening calm and sent cops scrambling.
Police swarmed the busy stretch of roadway, stringing up yellow tape as flashing blue lights lit up storefronts and sidewalks. One person was hit by bullets and rushed off with non-life-threatening injuries — a lucky escape in a city where shootings are now practically a nightly occurrence.
Neighbors peered from porches as detectives picked shell casings from the pavement, another grim routine in a summer already marred by violence. Blue Hill Ave, long infamous for chaos, once again lived up to its reputation as Boston’s shooting gallery.
The scene was classic Boston 2025: sirens blaring, cops scouring the street, and city leaders nowhere to be found. Mayor Michelle Wu’s “safe city” slogan rang hollow as yet another neighborhood was jolted awake by the crack of gunfire.
For Dorchester residents, the crime tape strung across their avenue wasn’t shocking — just exhausting.
No arrests have been announced, and Boston Police are still investigating. But for families along Blue Hill Avenue, the question isn’t who pulled the trigger. It’s when the next round of bullets will fly.
