Jonathan Hernandez, 41, of Hyde Park, is facing charges of murder, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, and assault with intent to murder after a woman was killed and a man left fighting for his life. He is set to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court.
The shooting erupted just after 10 a.m. on Faraday Street, shattering the calm of a late summer morning. Witnesses reported hearing several rapid gunshots before chaos spilled onto the street.
First responders performed CPR on the female victim before she was rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The male victim remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
As reported in our earlier coverage, police swarmed a bullet-shattered SUV, shell casings littered the pavement, and stunned neighbors peered from behind police tape as paramedics loaded the wounded onto stretchers.
City Councilor Enrique Pepen said the shooting was no random act — calling it a “targeted event” and linking it to gang activity.
While Mayor Michelle Wu continues to tout Boston as one of the “safest cities in America,” residents are seeing a far different reality play out in real time — from Dorchester to Downtown and now Hyde Park — as the city’s violent summer leaves yet another victim dead.
