According to MBTA Transit Police, it happened just after 5 p.m., when officers were called for reports of a 34-year-old man harassing and intimidating passengers on the platform.
An officer approached to de-escalate the situation — but instead of calming down, the man allegedly launched into a profanity-laced tirade before lashing out with a closed-fist punch that connected squarely with the officer’s head.
Gasps rang out across the platform as the blow landed. The officer, reportedly uninjured, quickly took the man to the ground and placed him in custody while shaken passengers looked on.
The suspect’s name and charges have not yet been released. It’s the latest in a growing pattern of unprovoked attacks on MBTA officers — and another reminder that Boston’s transit system isn’t just plagued by delays, but by violence. Yet Mayor Michelle Wu continues to insist Boston is the “safest major city in America.”
