BOSTON — A man pretending to be armed robbed a Roxbury resident of their electric scooter last Saturday evening, in a bold daylight theft that’s now under investigation by Boston Police.
The incident occurred around 6:55 p.m. on July 26 near the intersection of Ruggles Street and Leon Street. According to police, the suspect lifted his shirt to suggest he had a weapon before taking the victim’s scooter and fleeing the scene.

The suspect is described as a slim Black male, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a dark-colored T-shirt (gray or black), black track pants, and a black hat. No injuries were reported.
Detectives assigned to BPD District B-2 are investigating the case and are asking for the public’s help identifying the suspect. Anyone with information, photos, or video related to the incident is encouraged to contact police directly or submit anonymous tips via Boston CrimeStoppers.
The robbery is part of a growing number of small but bold summer crimes around the city — from car break-ins to street scuffles and now, apparently, scooter thefts by fake gunmen.
City officials have focused heavily on transportation reform and road redesigns in recent months, touting mobility upgrades across neighborhoods. But some residents say the basics — like public safety — feel increasingly like an afterthought.
This time, it wasn’t a car or bike that got hit. It was a scooter. In broad daylight. No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information is urged to contact BPD District B-2 detectives at (617) 343-4275 or submit anonymous tips by texting “TIP” to CRIME (27463).
