BRIGHTON — Another shooting. Another innocent worker caught in the crossfire. But don’t worry — Mayor Michelle Wu says Boston is “the safest major city in America.”
Just before midnight Friday, a DoorDash driver was shot while delivering food in Brighton — a quiet, residential neighborhood now soaked in the kind of violence Mayor Wu insists is under control.

Boston Police say the shooting happened around 11:41 p.m. at 81 Faneuil St. The victim, a man just trying to make ends meet, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. His only mistake? Working a night shift in a city that’s become increasingly dangerous for working-class residents.
No arrests. No suspect information. Just silence from the top.
The Wu administration, known for its obsession with bike lanes, DEI consultants, and taxpayer-funded healing circles, has been quick to brand Boston as “America’s safest major city.” But that’s not what residents are living — and it’s certainly not what this DoorDash driver experienced.
“She can say we’re the safest all she wants,” one longtime Boston resident told Mass Daily News. “We live here. We know it’s a lie.”
This isn’t an isolated incident. Boston has seen a string of violent crimes this summer — stabbings, shootings, armed robberies — and Wu’s City Hall continues to look the other way.
The victim in this case? A gig worker. The kind of person progressive leaders claim to champion — until they become inconvenient statistics.
As of Sunday afternoon, police say the investigation is ongoing. The mayor’s office has yet to comment.
