WAREHAM — A 67-year-old man with a long history of drunk driving is back in jail after allegedly mowing down a 25-year-old motorcyclist on a busy Wareham roadway — then fleeing the scene.
Police say Jordan Hansen was riding along Cranberry Highway just after 5 p.m. on Friday when he was struck with devastating force. First responders rushed to the scene and found Hansen gravely injured. He was transported to a local hospital, then airlifted to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, where he later died.

The driver, identified as Raymond Cardoza of West Wareham, was located a quarter mile down the road, still sitting in his vehicle.
Cardoza has a history of three prior OUI arrests and was driving with a suspended license at the time of the crash. He is now facing a fourth OUI, as well as charges of manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and operating after suspension. He’s being held on $100,000 cash bail.

The deadly crash has reignited outrage over Massachusetts’ repeated failure to keep habitual offenders off the road. Despite multiple prior arrests and a revoked license, Cardoza was apparently still able to get behind the wheel — with fatal consequences.
The crash occurred in Wareham, often called the “Gateway to Cape Cod,” a coastal town better known for its cranberry bogs than fatal hit-and-runs. But for many, Friday’s tragedy is a brutal reminder of the deadly cost of a broken system.
The investigation remains active.
