EVERETT — A convicted illegal alien sex offender from El Salvador was finally ripped out of Massachusetts last week — after spending years protected by the state's soft-on-crime, sanctuary-style policies.
Victor Vasquez Cordova, 54, was arrested on July 10 by ICE agents at his Everett home. He’s a Level 1 registered sex offender with a felony conviction for child pornography — and he’s not even supposed to be in the country.
Massachusetts let him stay.
Cordova was convicted back in March 2022 for possessing child sexual abuse material. But instead of booting him out of the country, authorities let him walk free with just 18 months probation — and no coordination with federal immigration enforcement.

He was a known sex offender. A convicted felon. A foreign national. And yet, for over two years, Massachusetts gave him safe haven.
Federal agents finally moved in last week with help from the U.S. Marshals Service and dragged Cordova into ICE custody. He’ll now face deportation proceedings in immigration court.
MASSACHUSETTS: SAFE HAVEN FOR PREDATORS?
Cordova originally entered the U.S. in 1983 as a legal permanent resident. That changed the moment he was convicted of a felony sex crime.
Under federal law, he became deportable. But Massachusetts — a state where local officials routinely limit cooperation with ICE — became his safe zone.
He didn’t serve prison time. He wasn’t deported. He simply registered as a sex offender and returned to everyday life — in the very same community.
Just a slap on the wrist, a registry form, and a quiet return to Everett.
It’s the kind of story that would be shocking — if it wasn’t so routine in Massachusetts.
ICE: DOING THE JOB LOCALS WON’T
This isn’t just about one predator. It’s about a state that has chosen to shield criminal aliens from accountability.
Cordova will remain in federal detention while his removal case plays out.
